Assistant Instructor

The Assistant Instructor course is designed to provide PADI Divemasters with important extra knowledge, skills and qualifications as diving educators. Assistant Instructor courses are taught by PADI IDC Staff Instructors, Master Instructors and Course Directors.

  • Be certified as a PADI Divemaster (or equivalent).
  • Be 18 years old by the start of the course.
  • Provide a medical certificate dated within 12 months of the start of the course.
  • Have completed and logged 60 dives.
  • Successfully complete the preassessment activities at the start of the course.
    The course duration is 30-40 hours (plus self study) and can be completed in 4 full weekends, depending on class size and other factors.

    Course Includes: 

    • Pre-assessment activities to review your diving knowledge and skills
    • 14 self study reading assignments and 16 knowledge reviews to complete in your own time
    • 7 classroom sessions to learn the PADI teaching methods
    • 8 practical teaching assignments [evaluated to the same standard required in a PADI Instructor Examination (IE)].


    Course Fee:The Assistant Instructor course requires an investment of $1750 per student. A $500 deposit will secure your place on the course, with the balance due at the start of the course.

    Course Fee Includes:
    Instructor Candidate workbook, instructor fees, pool fees, classroom and all air fills in Adelaide.

    Required Equipment:
    Complete open water diving equipment including mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit, BCD, regulator & gauges, alternate air source, compass, knife, slate, depth gauge and timing
    device. PADI Instructor Manual, Open Water Diver, Adventures in Diving, Rescue and Divemaster manuals and publications; The Best of the Undersea Journal, The Law And The Diving Professional, The Business of Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy and Project AWARE Instructor outlines, Confined and Open Water training and lesson
    preparation slates.
